While we skied at Deer Valley in Park City and enjoyed 8 inches of powder coming down over the duration of the day, Alta was watching 14 inches come down. Today the sun came out, and there was a lightly tracked Alta spread out before us.
We headed up the canyon early because we knew the reported 17" of snow would bring out the locals who have been hungry for powder in this somewhat disappointing season. The traffic kept moving, slowly, up the canyon.
The locals were hungry for some powder, so the line at Collins lift formed well before the first chair went up.
Once up the mountain, there were several areas that were opened just that morning, giving skiers plenty of virgin powder lines to choose from.
We enjoyed a day skiing with our friends and their family, spending an equal amount of time on the Sugarloaf, Supreme, and Collins lifts.
The kids loved racing each other down some of the gullies in the Supreme area.
Some of the older kids launched off some of Alta's natural terrain.
The most jaw-dropping air of the day came when one in our group launched off the edge of Devils Elbow trail right under the Sugarloaf lift, blindly clearing the rope, the rocks, and the bushes to land cleanly in Glory Hole. No video of that, but it was the craziest thing I've ever seen when skiing.
A 17" day of skiing in Alta was one to remember, and a great way to finish our trip to Utah.
